Hello

I have decided to renovate the apartment and am wondering if an interior wall is load-bearing or not.

What do you think about the wall marked in red below?

Best regards,

  • Floor plan with a red circle highlighting a wall, questioning if it's load-bearing. Surrounding rooms labeled; the central staircase visible.
Most likely it isn't, but other drawings than those for the drainage are needed to determine that.

When was the house built?

Okay, thanks for the input, the house was built in 1937

Using the drawing and information about the construction year, I believe the marked wall is non-load-bearing. Load-bearing walls in the house consist of at least full-brick masonry, and the flooring is reinforced concrete. To be completely sure, one would need to see a reinforcement drawing. I think @C.Lundin, who is knowledgeable in concrete technology, agrees with my assessment.

Thank you for the quick response, is it the city planning office that has the detailed drawings?

In the first drawing, you have all the load-bearing walls.

As mentioned, the reinforcement drawing shows that the wall is not load-bearing.

Hello again,
I contacted an engineer who looked more closely at the plans and received the following response:

The assessment is that it is not entirely uncomplicated to remove the wall. This type of house, which is so old, tends to settle, which means even non-load-bearing walls start to take on load. This could potentially cause some settling in the floor above if it is removed today. In theory, it could lead to cracks forming in both the wall and any parquet flooring in the apartment above. If there are doors adjacent, they may also start to misbehave. Therefore, to be on the safe side, you should bring in a structural engineer who can take a closer look and see if any measures need to be taken in connection with the demolition.

The house was built in 1937, any tips on a structural engineer who can take a closer look in Stockholm?

Best regards
