Is it wrong to use OSB board behind drywall in a tiled laundry room?
Hello!
I'm working on a garage where I'm going to allocate a small space for a laundry room.
In the garage, I plan to cover all four walls internally with OSB boards and then plasterboard them.
The space for the laundry, which will be in a corner of the garage and separated by two interior walls, I plan to tile.
What I wonder about is if it is inappropriate to have OSB behind the plasterboard in such a space?
I recall that at least in a shower area, there must not be wood panel material directly against the plasterboard that is tiled.
Grateful for answers.
Best regards,
Fredrik

hi.
Is there any point to OSB, because if you're tiling you still have to use plugs if you want to hang something on the tiled wall. With double drywall, you're sure that it's solid behind, so the studs don't move around.
But maybe you have an idea regarding the OSB board?

And there mustn't be plasterboard either... if you want to be precise.fredand44 said:
But I can't answer, because I know too little. But I believe that you can have OSB+plasterboard in the laundry room.

Yes, you can have OSB or plyfa under the plasterboard, but you should have a better quality of plasterboard than a regular one... if you want to be picky.
Hello!
Thanks for the very good response!
But it sounds like it's best with double gypsum, and preferably with that special gypsum for humid areas?
The idea with OSB is that I thought of screwing the dryer to the wall, as it is not that big. But when you say it, it might be too weak anyway.

Fredrik

Yes, the tumble dryer won't be running many times before it's back on the floor again.
Build up with some lekablock to the right height and attach a cute little door, so you have somewhere to store detergent and such.
