Hello,

I've done some tapping on the pole and I don't think it feels under much pressure.

When you tap it a little hard with your hand, it vibrates/sways like a guitar string. If it were under pressure, it would bulge in some direction, right?

Hello,

Maybe I exaggerated a bit with the wobbling but easily 5 mm to each side. After a nice karate chop, it wobbles for a few seconds. It is 250 cm long and only attached to the floor and ceiling. If you were to lay it with two sawhorses at each corner, you could easily make it flex, right?

I've measured it again and it's 50x200mm (2inchx8inch?)

Hi,

The plank is quite cracked and very gray in color. I don't know if it's because it's a different type of wood than pine or if it's just, well... dry?

I've fixed a 95x95 rule now. I'll place an MDF plate under it (about 150x150 to distribute any weight over a little area), cutting it just under a centimeter shorter than the height to the ceiling. Then I'll cut the old one. If the ceiling drops 1 cm, it will rest on the new one. If not, then I'm home free, right?

I've almost renovated the whole place myself but it's rare to face these kinds of construction technical problems. It's nice that there are people who know! :D

Might as well update a little. :)

Today I removed the beam! (fanfare sounds in the background)

It all started when I drilled a 70 mm hole in the floor on the upper level to inspect the beam.

The beam is an H-beam measuring 160x160mm and appears to be around 10 mm thick. (+- a few mm.)

The span it covers is 290 cm. Can anyone do a quick calculation on what this should/can support?
It would be great if Byggarn or someone knowledgeable could give a thumbs up or down so I can sleep well at night! :)

Right now, the wooden rod 95x95 is wedged in place with just a piece of paper at the top (I cut it slightly too short as desired). If the paper is easy to move tomorrow, the ceiling hasn’t sunk at least... and if it's the same after a few days, the rod will also be removed.

Oh oh oh.. I've been having nightmares about this, but soon it’s over :D
