Hello. I have a 550cm long and 10cm thick spiral duct for a heat transfer system that will be installed at the roof ridge in our great room. The great room is of the type without an attic, and the underside of the roof beams is exposed, so the spiral duct will therefore lie above these at the roof ridge.

The interior ceiling is made of untreated pine, and I've planned to panel the duct with the thinnest pine I can find and oil it once with cooking oil or something similar (sounds crazy, but it actually gives a slightly aged look so that it blends in).

I've visited the major hardware stores in Stockholm, but I can only find thick lumber, around 22mm round, which means the 'box/channel' becomes about 14.5cm wide.

I unfortunately have no idea if it's possible to find, for example, 10x120 and 10x100, so that I can build a 120x120 channel with inner dimensions of 100x100. Is there anyone on the forum who can suggest if there's any lumber yard hardware store or the like in Stockholm and its surroundings where I can find such lumber?

Maybe not an entirely impressive picture, but it's about paneling in the duct at the ridge.

Plywood wouldn't work? If you turn the grain correctly and manage to get hold of at least somewhat nice plywood.

Yes, that's one of the solutions I've been lying awake thinking about last night, instead of sleeping :-(
A fairly nice plyfa and some form of corner moldings if I can't get the fit right.

Cooking oil? Doesn't that create a bad smell? Rancid butter on a warm summer day.

No, I will not drench it.

I have done it with pine chairs and tables when I mixed old and new with very successful results. It would probably work with linseed oils etc., but no, a single coating doesn't create any smell...

In the end, I turned to Beijer Bygg in Tumba and ordered pre-cut pine plywood sheets in 2000x110 (4 mm thick) and then I'll mount them with 15x15 strip on the inside and screw it all together. There will be a few more joints than I initially expected, but with pieces that are cut with a bit better precision than I believe I could manage with the circular saw table I have, I think and hope it will turn out quite well.

I'll pick up the pieces tomorrow and start assembling. I think it's a good price, 400 pix for both the material and cutting. It will sit quite high and not be in the line of sight. It should be significantly nicer than the spiral pipe that needs to be concealed...
