I am quite new to the construction industry and am about to undertake the renovation of an old log cabin, so I have some questions.
1. Do you need to insulate a log wall where the logs are 155mm thick?
2. If I need to insulate, should I use plastic or something similar between the logs and the insulation?
3. I am going to install tongue and groove paneling in one of the rooms, do I need anything behind it or can I install it directly on the framework behind it?

Will it be heated year-round? Clad exterior or visible timber?

The timber is visible on the outside and we would preferably like to keep it that way. The cabin will not be heated year-round, only when we are there, as it is heated by a wood stove.

Then just frame a new wall and panel it, no plastic

but you can still isolate

Yes, just realized that I didn't write that

I would also advocate for such insulation with wood fiberboard and then a permeable barrier on that. Works very well with cold setting of houses.

If the timber is beautiful on the inside, I wouldn't cover it and would invest the money in regulating humidity and rapid heating.
