We are currently redoing the drainage around our house with a basement, and today we received a call from the drainage company. Apparently, there is no or very poor slope on the sewer/stormwater from the road to our house. The house was built in 1960, and we were aware that the drainage was poor when we bought it in December 2010. When we dug it up, there was only a platon 1m down and no drainage pipes. It's not something we can claim compensation for as we were aware that re-draining was needed.

However, I am now wondering if it is possible to get compensation to correct the incorrect slope that exists in the stormwater/sewer from our house to the municipal line by the road (about 8-10m). The sewer has worked as it should, but there has always been water in the well and it might now cause problems for us with our drainage as water is coming back when they do test spraying.

Does anyone know if this can be taken further and who to contact if so?

If more information is needed, feel free to get back to me and I'll provide further details.

Who do you mean you should get compensation from? Is the house newly purchased and you intend to claim a hidden defect, or what are you getting at?

Now I don't know which well you're referring to, but that observation is probably sufficient for it to have been included in your duty to investigate to discover the error.

If drainage was missing, and you want to install drainage, it is clearly not the seller's problem that the drainage cannot be directly connected to the municipal stormwater pipe.

Drainage pipes are generally not recommended to be connected to the stormwater system, precisely to avoid issues where stormwater pipes overflow during heavy rain, spring floods, etc., and push water back into the drainage.
