Hydraulic lime mortar on chimney?

Did you plaster with cement mortar? Which cement mortar A, B, or C?
If you're going to paint it, use weber lime paint 246. If the lead cover on the chimney doesn't leak, the chimney will stay fresh.
If it leaks, it will look bad after a year.

I used C mortar.
Thanks for the information about the paint and the cover! I probably won't paint it.

It would have been nicer and safer if you had done the job, but for this old cottage and my first attempt at plastering, I am somewhat satisfied.

Thanks! The surface is not completely even and is a bit bumpy which makes it difficult to get the fittings tight.

Simple is best on this house. The chimney crown is cement; eventually, it might become some type of metal cap.

I'm just wondering if there's a risk of the lime paint peeling off. White is nice but not if it starts coming loose. Does it?

One never knows, if water gets there, it will become ugly just as mentioned above.
