How well does 50mm channel plastic insulate?
Hello.
I am in the process of building an "attefallsutbyggnad" on my house. It will have a 50mm polycarbonate roof. The walls are insulated and I bought used double-glazed windows. The extension is on pillars, and there will be 170mm of insulation in the floor.
I will need to remove the old patio door as its position makes it impossible to furnish the space practically.
The question now is whether I need to install a glass sliding door or if the sunroom will be so well insulated that a door won't be necessary?
What do you think?

Unfortunately, not enough. You will experience a significant cold downdraft from the roof, everything will work but it will require unnecessarily much heat to compensate for the cold downdraft. Your channel plastic roof has about 0.8 in u-value, while a roof should maintain about =0.2-0.4.

Okay. Thanks for the answer.fremax said:
Then I'll take a look at a good sliding door. A glazed one. Do you think a proper one with insulated glass is necessary, or is a simple interior sliding glass door enough?
Thanks for the help!fremax said:
Then I'll go and look for an acceptably nice patio door that allows me to build in the whole package.
Should one be able to maintain at least 10 degrees in the sunroom during the coldest winter?
I was thinking of having porcelain flower growing and also fig trees and some other bits and pieces.
Thank you! I will try to remember to upload pictures
You can build your own frame with studs/wooden strips and sealing tape, just make sure everything is tight and insulated so you don't need to buy a facade section. If you're not 100% set on the dimensions, keep an eye on Blocket for mismeasured windows or similar items. You can usually get them for 60-80% off the new price.

I'm located between Jönköping and Falköping
Edit. What was so good about 2 meters is that at Skånska Byggvaror you can get a winter terrace sliding door with 3 panels = larger opening
