Hi Matti, have been considering attaching battens from above, we will install battens between the rafters to attach panels there, the battens can then continue a bit down the wall below. Due to how far we've gotten with the exterior paneling on the different sides of the cabin and the protruding roof, it limits the length of the battens we can put down.
If you see problems, you'll only get problems. Look for solutions instead, and it'll get solved. Put in as long pieces as you can and extend them gradually using screws and some small joint from, for example, Plyfa.

I am not a designer, but in a wall with horizontal boards both internally and externally, I would like to have a diagonal support because each board can otherwise be displaced laterally with rough handling. This is easy to do on the studs internally by tensioning steel bands diagonally before you install the panel.
2 nails in each board serve the same function.

Solutions are good :) They are placed between the wind barrier and the outer panel. Can "lock" them later from the inside of the barrier.

Costs so little with steel band this is not an ordinary house that stands on a solid foundation and is never moved

Great with all the answers :)
After reading everything, I think a good solution might be to:
- Continue down with the battens mounted on the sides of the rafters to provide support at the top for the wall insulation.
- Reinforce laterally from the inside with a diagonal board or perforated tape, which also gives extra support to the insulation.
- Add extra nails to the exterior panel to further increase torsional rigidity.
- Consider, if needed, after the above has been tried, switching to a different insulation material.
