I have a house that is partially extended onto a concrete patio. A part of the patio is still outdoors. Currently, insulation and joists have been laid directly on the patio, and nothing prevents water from dampening this. Nothing is rotten though, as it probably doesn't naturally seep in.

I'm considering renovating the extension (bathroom) and want to redo it properly. How do you actually seal between the concrete patio and the exterior wall?

Are there other disadvantages to enclosing the concrete patio?

There is probably no sensible way to seal between a wall and a slab that sticks out, possibly wrapping the whole thing with some form of baseboard that extends beyond the edge. Normally, you make sure that the wall is at the edge of the slab, so that the facade extends beyond the edge of the foundation. This of course assumes you have a foundation that can withstand the pressure, i.e., either a strong concrete slab or one that is edge-reinforced.

If you really want to build on a protruding foundation, you might be able to cast a small plinth on the slab before placing the sill there? Possibly paint with suitable paint...? I'm just guessing, of course.
