Hello!
Renovating the part of the house built in the early 1900s/late 1800s.
The chimney has cracks and sounds hollow when tapped in certain places. When I knocked off pieces, it's like sand behind. It's so soft that you can easily pull off large loose pieces. (In the video clip I link, it's not so bad).
Behind this plaster or whatever it is, there are lots of bergslagsstenar (like ordinary stones you find outside but blue).
What I wonder is how to fix this?
I guess I need to knock off what's loose and then fill in with the appropriate material.
Most of it feels pretty hollow and loose. I don't know how hard it should be.
In some places, it sounds more solid when I tap. I imagine that's how it should be everywhere.
Is there anyone here who knows about this and has tips on how to get this right?
How much to knock off? Repair with what material, etc.?
