Hello!

For example, if I am bricking up an interior door in a brick wall, how do I make what I am bricking up more load-bearing? Imagine having removed the door and frame and bricking it up. When you get to the top, there is usually some form of gap.

One idea is to drive in a number of wedges so there is a bit of pressure between what you just bricked up and the wall above. Then fill in the rest with mortar.

This can be even more important if you are going to remove the wall next to it later, so that the new part you have bricked up is what needs to carry the load.

If anyone understands what I mean, I would appreciate any ideas :)

Read up a bit about expanderbetong and see if it solves your problem. Otherwise, you can of course cast again to fill the gap and with the help of a suitable form construction, ensure that you get a good fill-in.

You can attach a board on one side of the doorway that covers the gap (which you can leave at 2-4 cm perhaps) and then pack in mortar or concrete against the board and all the way out so it will be completely solid.
