We had just kicked off a kitchen renovation and in the plan is to build a half-wall and place a narrow countertop on it. One side of the half-wall will face the living room and the other side will face the kitchen, with the base cabinets standing against this wall. There was previously a load-bearing wall there, which we have replaced with a beam in the ceiling. The big question now is how to make this wall sturdy without having a pole straight up to the ceiling.
I have seen forum posts here about the construction of the wall itself, but how do you attach it securely?

So you are planning to have a half-wall, against which you will place kitchen cabinets on one side?
To make it stable, I think you need to utilize the kitchen cabinets.
Step one. Screw and glue the kitchen cabinets to the floor.
Step two. Screw and glue the wall to the cabinets.
Step three. Place the countertop.
Done.
By the way, should the wall be higher than the kitchen cabinets and, if so, should the countertop be mounted on the wall and not on the cabinets?
If that is the case, you also need to be careful with the attachment of the countertop to the wall. You probably need relatively wide brackets for the countertop.
Can you draw a sketch with measurements? Viewed from the short side.
