Hello, I have a problem. I want to attach a chain (kätting) to an eyelet that is in a concrete wall. But I wonder how I can accomplish this. My first thought was to use a threaded shackle and tighten it so that tools would be required to open it. An okay solution if it works. But I am unsure of how a shackle works. Is the idea of a shackle that you should easily be able to open and close it? That is, be able to easily turn the locking pin in its thread to be able to slide it to the side. Do you have any tips on something other than a shackle that I can use for this?

I do NOT want to be able to open the shackle again

  • Metal eye plate, shackle, and chain.
The easiest way is probably to weld something.

I don't have access to a welder, and the place where it will be mounted doesn't have electricity access.

The point of a shackle is that you can open it again, yes. It's probably not quite right for you.

The best solution is probably to have a chain with a forged ring that you can make a loop with. Otherwise, you can always put a padlock on the innermost part.

Welding the links together is probably a good idea as well.

A padlock seems like the simplest solution...

If it's only supposed to stop the opportunistic thief, you could hacksaw off the head of the screw in the shackle?

It's probably all a simple chain stops in a remote location (without electricity).

Yes, that was smart... that's probably the one I'll go for. It doesn't protect valuables, it's more about protecting other people from a space that shouldn't be accessed by unauthorized individuals.

Change the chain to one with a ring at the end?

The chain through/around what is attached, then through the ring and then at the other end whatever you want to do, maybe have a lock.

Otherwise, you can do as you thought but use loctite and also tighten. Or the same but saw off the part you can grip around.

Now I have shopped. Instead of the lashing point, I bought a bolt with an eye. I bought a longer chain that I loop back to the eye and secure everything with a padlock. I also bought anchor compound and universal plug that I press into the hole I make in the concrete. Can post a picture when I'm done.

Thanks for the tip, but such a chain would actually be too expensive

Here's how the solution turned out. Thanks for all the tips!

  • A lock secures a chain to a metal ring on a stone surface outdoors.
  • A wooden platform with a chain forming a triangle on its surface, likely a solution to a construction or renovation project.
