I have a floor in a 19th-century house that is both uneven and cold, and I am considering replacing it. How is it best to manage around and on the stones the house rests upon?
As you can see in the picture, the wooden planks rest directly on the stones in some places, and the floor cannot be raised more than a few centimeters.
Between the stones, it is possible to dig out, but the stones remain where they are. I would appreciate any tips on how to proceed.
First and foremost, you should lay a TIGHT subfloor to avoid problems with rats and such. If the insulation becomes too thin, you should consider raising the floors slightly, if possible, to achieve an acceptable thickness of the joist/insulation.
Raising the floor so that the trossbotten is above the stones is unfortunately not possible, so how can one seal it around irregular stones? Can the gap between the joists and the stones be filled with something that seals/insulates?
