Hi!
I am renovating a 1930s house with a brick frame where the walls have a layer of plaster and then wallpapered in about 2-3 layers.

All the window niches have been covered by the previous owner with some type of board (parquet flooring?) likely to hide the insulation that has been pushed out from the window.
Plaster or mortar has also come off the wall at the transition to the window. Much of it is loose and can be picked away.

1. What should be used to repair the plaster and then be able to fill or put up renovation wallpaper? Is it okay to use filler, or husfix? Or should one use mortar?

2. When I have removed the boards in the window niche, it will look ugly with protruding insulation (or whatever it is?). To hide this, could one cut away the excess insulation and put a thin strip instead? Right at the seam between the window and the original wall in the niche?

I have attached some pictures. I hope it is understandable!

  • Damaged plastered wall near a window with peeling layers and visible cracks, part of a 1930s house renovation project.
