I need to replace the garage door and have to build a little new since the old one was bad. I will be installing an overhead garage door. What is the best solution for the new frame that I need to build up? The garage is built with 45x95, so that dimension is used. I have already framed 2 pieces of 45x95 as in the upper example, does it work to build like that? Or should I remove a stud and put in a 45x120 instead?

Went and checked with the neighbor and now I think I will do it like this instead:

Two pieces of 45x95 are sufficient. See no need to use a 45x120. The rail is stiff enough for you to do as shown in image 2.

thank you

I will do as in this picture, but won't moisture migrate into the gypsum if I place it directly against the rebate? nyportkarm.gif
