I'm building a carport and have been advised by theoretically knowledgeable people to add steel cross braces for better wind stability. I was thinking of using threaded rods between the posts - but how do you attach them to the posts? Drill through the post and nail plate? The nuts would then be at an angle - are there construction brackets that fix at about a 45-degree angle?

In the roof, I will have band steel corner to corner, but attaching that isn't difficult.

If the storage part is stable through the use of panels or similar, it is sufficient to stabilize the plane of the roof. In that case, no cross braces are needed. How the roof is stabilized depends on the materials you intend to use.
