The top rail is a 45x95 pressure-treated beam that I first cut diagonally with the bench saw and then rounded off with the band sander.

Yes, it's screwed at an angle as you describe. But, I think in later iterations of this, I also did as @JanneJanne123 described, i.e., first mounting the piece closest to the post with screws from the side, and then placing the fence itself and fixing it with the horizontal parts.

The slats are screwed into the outer horizontal part, and yes, there are probably two screws in the wide ones, don't remember 100%.

Thanks a lot!

I'm not following the part about cutting diagonally. My imagination tells me it's to get a bit of slope on the top rail for water runoff? Or diagonally in another direction?

I've also considered screws from the side, but the picket is only 28mm wide; won't it split? Pre-drilling is probably necessary, I guess.

As I've drawn it up now, it will be like this:

Post 95x95
Pickets closest to the post 28x45
Other pickets, a mix between 28x45 and 28x70
Horizontal on either side of the pickets 28x70
Top rail 28x120 or 45x120

The tricky part for me is that the fence with vertical pickets will meet a fence with horizontal boards; executing that transition will be interesting :rolleyes:

Additionally, the total span is 8.8 meters (fence 3 meters) where the load-bearing beams overlap :rolleyes:

I have my own thread about this but few find it... Sorry for hijacking this thread, but that was a really sleek fence you built.:ok:

I might be explaining it poorly. What I mean is that I've placed the rule on its edge and then tilted the blade slightly.

Outline of a board stood on edge with a tilted saw blade.

with good decking screws, it works. I've probably used essves screws.

Regarding the choice of materials, I've probably used 22mm rip-sawn timber. I remember it was a bit tricky to find pressure-treated ones, but maybe it's more common now.

Now I understand. Thanks.

I have uploaded some pictures in my thread. If you have time, feel free to share your thoughts
