Hi,
I bought a new car that has a mounted dog crate. I was thinking of modifying it a bit but the person who made it has used something that I don't understand what it is to screw it together. Are they rivets? How do I remove them if so?

Thanks!

  • A rivet on a metal surface, part of a mounted dog box on a car, with visible scratches indicating wear or attempted removal.

It's called a popnit and you drill them out.

  • Laddar…
For example, start by drilling with a drill bit that is 1 mm larger than the hole in the rivet; you may need to go up a size in drill bit if the head does not come loose.

test with a 3.2mm drill, standard size for rivets

Thank you! Once I've removed them, can I then put in a new pop rivet? I was thinking about replacing these.

  • Lock mechanism on a metal surface, potential pop rivet replacement context.

Yes, if you buy a kit with rivets and pliers then.
