Parapet around the garage roof.

Newly laid roof felt on the other side makes me afraid to just tear off the rotten battens, and especially to screw/nail new ones and risk puncturing the felt.

Considering the emergency solution of mounting new battens alongside.

Okay, or insane?

and can report that I have actually dared to try that and it has gone well. Thanks for the support. :)

I've put up new studs and new tongue and groove boards, fixed with screws at the ends...

But now before the final coat of paint, I need to secure the rest so the boards really hold.

So I wondered... If I now paint over the screw heads, it'll be a pain next time the rail needs to be replaced.

Would you have used nails on the other points besides the joints (which have a higher risk of coming loose with nails) or just used screws everywhere and dealt with it later when it's time for the tongue and groove replacement again?

If you use Torx, you should be able to fit a bit in them even with paint on, i.e. if you use screws for outdoor use. In an emergency, use a heat gun to loosen the paint.

yes it is torx but thought it would be even more difficult then with color..
