Hey!
I've finally received my stylish cast granite radiator from LVI... but it sure weighs a bit!
How do you think it should be mounted?
Facts:
Weight: about 20 kg.
Number of mounting points: 4
Wall material: 12mm chipboard + 13mm gypsum.
Studs: Well, not really sure where they are (feeling a bit clumsy).

I experienced something similar this summer, but with slightly different conditions. A regular water radiator 600*1400 mm was to be mounted on a single layer of drywall (under a window). My method was:
1) Swearing
2) Locate the vertical studs to which the window is attached, which is fairly easy
3) Cut away the drywall between these studs with a reciprocating saw. Cut at the middle of the stud.
4) Remove insulation and mount studs in appropriate places.
5) New drywall, plastering, etc.
6) Mount the radiator with lag screws into the new studs.

With the right mindset (i.e., taking the bull by the horns, biting the bullet, biting the sour apple, etc.), you can have the radiator in place within a day. Then you also know that it will not fall down.

20 kg wasn't so bad, it should just be a matter of screwing it in. You did have particleboard.

If you're worried, insert 2/4 molyexpander (the model for double discs then), they hold at least 25kg each.

Agree with elof.....expand! Should last! Trust us ;)

Mollyplugs it is... was at the lumber yard and talked about it as well.

Mattiasp seems to like carpentry... but it feels like a major overkill to take apart half the wall!

Four mollyplugs for double boards will be purchased tomorrow!

Although I like carpentry, my conditions were worse. Probably heavier radiator, single drywall, and only two fastening points. Furthermore, it turned out that there was no vertical stud under the window at all. The drywall lacked support at 1400 mm!
