Good day!

Recently moved into the house and there are large gaps between the ceiling and the molding as shown in the picture.
The problem now is that in 2 days, 4-5 wasps have crawled in from those large gaps.
I have sealant in the black area, but since the gaps are so large, it's not working well at all.
Does anyone have tips on a way to make it better? Or is filling with sealant the only solution around the ceiling on the upper floor?

Thanks for the response! Have a great Thursday.
Best regards

  • Gaps between ceiling and trim with caulk visible, potential entry points for wasps. Visible gaps highlighted in red, part of renovation issue discussion.
You can "bottom" the hole with something before sealing. For example, carve some wood sticks that you insert into the holes before sealing.

I have used aluminum foil for a similar solution and then sealed. That works well too.

If you have the energy, you can take down the horizontal ceiling molding (first draw a line along the ceiling with a pencil). Somehow saw off (multi-saw) the downward-curved ceiling boards perhaps about 5 mm, from the line you drew and backwards/inwards. This is to recess/raise the molding a bit more and have smaller gaps to fill with sealant. It also seems like you should be able to achieve a neater corner if this molding comes closer to the ceiling.

The problem is not that the wasps are getting in through the inner ceiling. The problem is that they are getting in through the outer shell.

Find out where they are coming in and seal there. For example, if there are missing nets in the vents in the attic or similar.
