Hello,

I am currently renovating an apartment building constructed in 2008. I have a wall adjacent to the stairwell, and I've noticed that this wall has three layers of drywall. All the electrical boxes etc. do not have any fire sealing, nor do the boxes themselves maintain any form of fire rating.

Behind these walls, when I insert a phone, I can see mineral wool, steel studs with a fairly good distance to what I believe is some sort of wood panel.

I'm wondering if these panels are more for soundproofing than fire rating? However, when we opened up a ceiling box in the living room, there were also three layers of drywall, but behind the box, there was a fire pillow. Does anyone know off the top of their head what is for what?

  • Close-up of a hole in a drywall with exposed gypsum layers and metal stud, showing wall construction details without fireproofing.
  • Hole in drywall with blue electrical box, pencil markings nearby, and exposed layers of gypsum board in a renovation project.
  • Close-up of a wall with mineral wool insulation and metal stud, showing renovation details in a house built in 2008.
EI60 is quite easy to achieve. Three layers of gypsum board on one side of metal studs meet the requirements.

But the wall also seems to be the boundary for a fire compartment? Then there are a number of other requirements that must also be fulfilled.
