Horizontal studs, OSB+drywall

Hello.

I've torn down the old beadboard that had been on the walls in the den since the house was new (1978). It's intended to become a plastered wall instead.

I now have horizontal studs with 800 mm centers and no vertical studs. For various reasons, I don't want to tear down these studs, so I'm wondering what options I have.

Can I mount OSB on these studs and then plasterboard without embedding any vertical studs? Or will it be too wobbly?

Is it possible to mount OSB on these studs and then plaster without inserting any vertical studs? Or will it be too unstable?

Can't you place a 45*45 between 800, so the new CC becomes 400?? And then have standing OSB?
