Hello! Hoping for some good advice... We have exposed a timber wall that was covered with tretex before putting up wallpaper. One of the logs was apparently uneven because it has been axed to lie flat against the board. Now it looks like a..."fringed jacket." Does anyone have tips on which tool/method I should use to remove the cuts? Planing maybe? These cuts/fringes are only a few cm long and too numerous - looks awful. Additionally, the timber looks "new" while the other logs have a darker surface, will this darken over time, perhaps within a lifetime, or will I have to squint when passing by from now on...

Planing works well.
Then you can dye the new surface to match.
Stain for example.

Use a good sander, large or small depending on the area and the person holding it. There is a rubber pad and sandpaper with various grit sizes available for purchase at a well-stocked hardware store. You can now sand the wall to a perfect surface and it goes quickly. Use safety goggles, a good respirator, hearing protection, and gloves. Keep the safety guard on the sander and sand with even strokes in one direction. Good luck!

Thanks for the tips! :)

Oh, I didn't even know you could sand with a rondell.. I'll try both ways! Although it becomes tricky since our timbers are, what do you say really - rounded on the sides??
