Help with tape for sealing vapor barrier!
As the title suggests, I need some help with sealing the vapor barrier (name?) in the house. When we removed all the moldings on the ceiling, we saw that the plastic from the attic isn't properly sealed. A guy who came to check on possibly insulating the attic said we need to tape it with aging-resistant tape. We bought a tape we found at Byggmax;
http://www.byggmax.com/se-sv/byggva...tomme/byggplast-tillbehor/21024/byggfolietejp
which we used for something else, and we're wondering if this is sufficient to seal it?
Does anyone have any experience with this? Or is another tape recommended?
Best regards, Helena

If you can see a brand on the plastic you have, then search for the installation instructions from the supplier. You don't always need to tape everything if you have enough overlap and have nailed the plastic with a carrier strip type 28x70.
I haven't used that particular tape, but it surely holds the same quality as other hardware stores like hornbach, etc.

So the sitac marking guarantees nothing? I've only used Tesa's aging-resistant tape myself and at least when you apply it, it holds firmly... Then it's hard to check since we've plastered over the plastic a few days later....
I can only agree, we use it at work and it’s great and sticks to most surfaces. I've used it a lot at home too, but as mentioned it is expensive. However, you can find it at somewhat more reasonable prices if you look a bit outside Sweden's borders.Matti_75 said:
The sitac certification usually only pertains to aging resistance. I've tested that tape and pressure tested before plastering, and the tape came off.MMR said:
As Matti_75 says, the buildingmax tape doesn't hold up; it comes loose. T-flex is a good tape that grips firmly. Recently, I bought a roll of Icopal Universal tape because my hardware store stopped carrying T-flex, and it felt very similar to T-flex in adhesive quality.
Sorry for my late reply here, my internet has been acting up the last few days.
Hm, it doesn’t sound like I want to gamble with the tape from Byggmax. I don’t want to do anything half-heartedly.
Where can you buy these tapes you’re talking about, T-flex and Icopal Universal tape? Can you only order online or are they available in stores too?
I've tried googling them to see if any store sells them, but nothing comes up.
I live in Gothenburg, maybe some of you know a store here? Alingsås is also fine since my partner works there.

What I've noticed as a downside to buying this type of product online is that it's hard to know how much is needed. If I buy locally, I can take a lot more than I need and then return. If I order too much or too little online, it becomes more complicated and expensive.Helena1 said:Sorry for my late reply here, my internet has been acting up for the past few days. Alternative tapes that work well are
T-Flex (Expensive)
Rakonor Sitko (manufactured at the same factory as T-Flex according to information)
Isover Vario Multitape
To save on taping, overlap seams on a few spars, say 60 cm, so the plastic is well clamped by the plasterboard.
Yes, of course not across the spars then...
(can never be too clear)
Good luck
