So, I've done some test screwing with a 6x60 screw and it doesn't really tighten. It's in enough that I can't move the screw in depth, but it rotates relatively freely when fully screwed in and I keep turning. Not sure if it's okay, but it doesn't feel quite right.

No, then it is wrong.

Do you really have threads in the chipboard? Many screws are not fully threaded. Have you also pre-drilled with, for example, a 3mm drill?

If it still doesn't work, use a thicker screw. You must have threads on both sides of the chipboard.

Then I've probably pre-drilled with too thick a drill bit. The screw is fully threaded, so that should be fine.

New test tomorrow!

I ended up wrong. Took a smaller drill, same result. I absolutely don't understand anything.

Do I have the wrong screw? Should I plug with something?

  • A hand holding a screw, with a drill and tools in the blurred background.
use a molly for double drywall, and also find a wall stud where you can use a wood screw
