I know that really skilled people tidy up cut drywall and bevel with, for example, a regular utility knife. But I was advised by a carpenter to get a drywall rasp as a beginner. But then I saw that there is also something called a beveling plane.

Is there a difference between the two or does a drywall rasp also bevel and vice versa?

Checked them out since I'm gearing up for a bit of drywall work myself (so glad you brought it up).

The seams below are cut, as well as slots to a deeper and more defined edge. It would feel good to have a quality tool in metal rather than plastic, which might not withstand much over the long term.

The rasp, as I interpret it, just sands away a few protrusions, evens out minimally.

They fundamentally do different things, really. The plane delivers a fine, factory-like perfect edge along as far as needed. Feels like the perfect choice.

So the drywall rasp doesn't chamfer then? Just "tidies up" an edge you’ve cut? Because you do need to chamfer a cut edge on drywall, the one that doesn’t already have the wide chamfer.

Sorry if I’m asking silly questions. But there are so many concepts and terms that are new to me!

It looks super professional when I watched a carpenter who did everything with just a regular utility knife. I’ll probably never get there.

Well then, it will be the same if not better with just the fashyvel. Exactly, the rasp scrapes a bit here and there where it's uneven.

I'm completely set on a solid and good fashyvel. I won't need the rasp.

No, there are no stupid questions. I'm speaking out myself without being an expert, but as I said, the shavings with the plane will be factory-precise.

No such thing as a stupid question. I speak from my own experience without being an expert, but as I said, the results with the plane are factory-precise.

I'm going to test Biltema's plane. 80 SEK haha. But tomorrow I'm just going to bevel a board. I saw Bauhaus had one from Stanley that looked robust but had mixed reviews. Everything from junk to really good. When I fix the next room, I plan to get a slightly more robust one. If Biltema's doesn't work well.

Cool! Ok, test and good luck! I will be furnishing a closet in a kattvind and replacing a skiva under the ceiling above the stairs soon.

Try with something cheaper first, maybe I'll do that too - if it doesn't work, you might need to spend a bit more. That’s it.

Hello.
I'm about to install some drywall and was just looking at rasps.
I'll need to cut my sheets to some odd measurements since the existing wall isn't built with cc 60 studs, so I think you'll want to bevel it nicely.

How did the testing go?
