hi,
we have installed drywall anchors... we are going to mount shelves, but the screw that came with the drywall anchor does not catch. The part that should go into the wall went in fine (it's secure and stable) but when we try to screw in the screw with the bracket in between, the screw won't attach. Does anyone know why and what we can do about this?
thanks!

it really doesn't look like the thread is damaged... we also tried with new screws that came in the same package but nothing holds...
the part that is supposed to expand is in the wall and it is secure and stable, but the screw doesn't want to go in. 15 pieces came in the package and the screw is in the expander, so you would think it's the right screw...
If the screw was screwed in upon delivery, and doesn't go in now after the expansion, I can't conclude much other than that the thread is damaged.
Take pliers and try to bend up the fastening ring that sits on the outside, and push the screw into the wall and try with another one.

If it is molly expanding, do this:
Test the screw without a bracket, then you'll know if the thread is damaged or if it's a molly for double-layer gypsum and you only have one layer. If the thread is intact, it might be that the screw is too short and you need to buy an "extension screw" (a tip if you don't know the size of the screw is to take the one that is too short to the hardware store and test which thread size it is, then buy a longer screw) buy one that is about 20-30mm longer.

I don't know if it's clear, but it might be the internal thread on the expander that got damaged. Not the one on the screw. It happened to me easily before I had the proper pliers to mount the plug. The steel the plug is made from can't be too brittle (but stiff) to expand in the hole with reasonable force, and unfortunately, this also affects the strength of the threads. Anyone who has skimped on using a torque wrench when working with aluminum parts probably understands what's meant.
Bend off the ring on the expander and push it into the wall, then put a new one in place.

hi,
we bought a "molly setter" at Bauhaus and it worked well!
