We want a well grate above our basement window, partly to reduce the risk of break-ins and especially to prevent the children from falling/jumping down. The question is just where we can find it and how much it might cost? We are currently laying decking, so we need to find something suitable quite quickly, if we don't cover it with the decking as well.

From your text, I would think that there is a deck above/around the light well?
And depending on the design of your grate, there are probably two options.
Either you order a custom-sized one from a local blacksmith/metalworking company, or you buy a grating that you insert between the decking.
It can then be screwed down to reduce the risk of burglary.

There are also grating mats that are used on e.g. stairs. Unfortunately, I can't find a good picture, but I have ordered them myself at a hardware store. It cost a few hundred kronor.

Where can you find grating, and how durable is it? Can an adult walk on it?

Pinewood: How large a scraping grid have you found?

Grating is available in all possible sizes and dimensions, there are those you can drive a car on or even heavier and weaker variants.

Try searching the internet for grating or alternatively scraping grids.

However, I don't understand the difference between grating and scraping grids, but it's nothing I've delved into...

We weren't looking for big ones, the ones we bought can be seen in the picture here:
(But I recall that the ones we bought were among the smaller models.)
A small concrete block wall structure next to a green house, with a person in the background and various construction materials, including a ladder, inside.

Thanks for the tip! I googled and it's exactly what we're looking for, we'll see if any hardware store might have it now that we have the name for it!
