In my garage, there's an old floor drain without a cover. I've accidentally stepped into the hole enough times that I've placed a grate from an old cast-iron floor drain, but it's a bit too small. But now you only step down 8 cm.. :-)

Is there something available for purchase that might fit? Or do I need to weld something? It would be nice to have a flat surface to walk on without tripping. See pictures for measurements.

Measuring tape across an old floor drain hole in a garage, surrounded by dirt and debris, with tape showing diameter measurements.

The old grate I have covers the deep hole and rests on the edge, 8 cm down from the floor surface.

A rolled sheet metal piece standing as a ring and then a round sheet metal piece as a lid welded onto it. Can't be rocket science to get it right.
If you make the support ring correctly, so it aligns with something at the bottom, you might get it tight and it stays still as well.

It should be able to work. I'll check with a sheet metal workshop to see if they can fix it. I thought there might be something ready to buy. :-)
