Hello,

I am going to replace some things on the car and need good work lighting in the garage. The first thought is of course to install fluorescent lights, but it requires a lot of work/time to get it right, so for the time being I should be able to go with some mobile solution.

Any tips? What should one consider? Is LED the way to go? Or does halogen work just as well?

I'm thinking of something like this:

Yellow tripod work light with two adjustable lamps on top, suitable for garage or car maintenance to provide portable, adjustable illumination.
Portable LED work light on a yellow tripod stand for garage use. Plug attached for easy mobility and lighting under vehicles.

However, it can probably work well with something lower if it becomes cheaper, after all, it's under the car I'm working on.

Maybe

I don't really like halogen, it gives great light but "hard" shadows...
Better with the fluorescent lamp in the last picture, it doesn't get as hot either

Halogen becomes like a heat cannon! Can't be in the same room.

Bought this: http://www.biltema.se/sv/Bygg/Belysning-och-lampor/Arbetslampa/LED-stralkastare-2000036626/ with 1600 lm, should provide enough and be fairly easy to place, I hope. What I don't like is that you almost can never replace the bulb in these LED lights, and in this case, they don't specify how long they last, could it be 500 hours or 30,000 hours?

Otherwise, I also believe in the fluorescent tubes above, but the problem can be placement.
