Building a fence/palisade to separate part of the garden from another and to avoid visibility from the street. It is 1.70 high with small gaps between the slats, 2.40 wide, then a gate 1.13 wide before another piece of fence at 1.14. The reason for the measurements is that we are adapting to old plinths and pathways. It is 7 m into the property and the neighbor has agreed that we use his garage for one of the posts. Now to my question. I have searched for information on how best to make the gate and I think we have found a good foundation. Frame with reinforced corners, hinges that cover two-thirds of the gate. But should there be a diagonal brace like a Z or N and why? Any other tips?

I would say from the upper free corner down towards the hinge to absorb loads.

If the gate is supposed to resemble the fence, I would have built a frame with a diagonal according to Robert's description. Then whether you want to call it Z or N is a bit up to each individual.

Then I'll say like Rickard.ag. Frame or at least two standing and one strut diagonally across.
