Hello!

Steel stairs are often used as escape stairs in various buildings. For example, when an extension is built, an additional escape staircase may be needed, and usually, an inexpensive staircase is chosen.

As far as I know, escape stairs must meet certain requirements, for instance, the mesh size of the grid must not exceed 30 x 10 mm so that the stairs can also be used by someone wearing high-heeled shoes.

But what are the general regulations in Sweden? Are there certain requirements on what can be used, for example, in public places?

God forbid that one would have to take off their shoes.

Well, not fun if you have to do it out on the street.

I believe there are recommendations (but no general regulations?) to only use grating that meets certain requirements, such as a mesh size of 30 x 10 mm. There is also grating with a mesh size of 30 x 30 mm, but there is a certain risk that people wearing high-heeled shoes could get stuck there and an accident could happen.

But the designer must always consider some ...

There is quite a bit ....

Gitterroststufen 30/30 mm
Standard grating steps with mesh width 30/30 mm.

Standard grating steps with mesh width 30/10 mm,
suitable for high heels

they say they're suitable for high-heeled shoes ....

But with the Swedish wholesalers/retailers, it seems they don't take this into account?

Here they have closed the "gallerdurk-omradet" for pedestrians

The mesh size here was 30 x 30 mm as far as I could see, and this mesh size is not suitable for high-heeled shoes.
