We have an Ikea bed that looks like this below.
Now my wife has decided that it should become a den/playhouse on top of it.
I'm considering replacing the beams on the long sides with 120mm ones and then laying a board on top.
The board will be 90x200cm.
Can a plywood board handle that with 5 kids jumping on it, or how do I do it?

I would probably have wanted to have a beam in the wall as a main support and then build a framework of studs resting on this beam and on the bed's "legs" then place a board on top, to conceal the studs one can simply have a painted 3 mm board at the bottom.

I would prefer to avoid that. I think there should be some kind of board that can be screwed on top that holds.
My first thought was plywood about 22mm, but I don't know where I got that from or if it's sufficient?
My knowledge of materials and their strength is much too poor.
Otherwise, I have previously used a material called sandwich (which I have built aquarium stands with and is similar to plywood). It should work if I can get hold of it. However, I don't know what it costs.

That's completely true, and it can be solved in different ways. I've considered mounting in the wall, thicker posts/pillars, or more of them (if needed). I believe I can calculate this, but haven't done it yet. It's primarily the floor that concerns me and where I feel my competence isn't enough.charta77 said:

So, add a bunch of extra angle irons and fasten if possible to a wall.
