Fix plastered stove, use regular filler?

You see the small crack on the edge, it came off when we removed the cover plate we had when painting. To fix this, is it possible to just use regular medium wall filler? Or do we have to use plaster?

Plaster is probably better.

There is something called husfix that is easier to work with and is sold in smaller packages. I would have gone for it.
