I have a workshop section in the old barn that has a 40+ year old concrete floor.

This part of the barn is on a slope, so from the lowest point at ground level to 2.5m above ground on the other side.
There's a space underneath the front part, so breaking it up is not an option.

I plan to try grinding, leveling it with self-leveling compound and painting it. There are various old cracks (none that have appeared or visibly changed, but they will likely partly come back); the main purpose is to get a fresh, easy-to-clean floor that's easy to roll things on.
But if it's a bad idea, I want to avoid it, of course, since it's quite a hassle. It's unclear what has been spilled on this floor, but the old paint adheres quite well, so it shouldn't be too bad once it's grinded.

Building height is, as usual, critical... A few mm, not 10-20mm Cracked old concrete floor in a workshop, showing uneven surface and visible wear. Cracked old concrete floor in a workshop, showing visible wear and fractures, with a partial view of a red caster wheel nearby. Old concrete floor with visible cracks and wear in a workshop section of a barn, with some tools and debris scattered around. Cracked concrete floor in an old workshop, with visible wear and a coiled rope, highlighting surface imperfections and aging.

No good tips?

The former owner of our farm has laid a concrete slab inside some of the outbuildings. Made in the early '80s, i.e., about 40 years ago. A rough concrete mix with macadam as ballast. On top of that, he has spilled out fiberglass-reinforced self-leveling compound. It is a tough material. It is completely smooth on the top side. However, he didn't take the trouble to try to level it, so you can see flow edges from various batches presumably poured from a bucket. So I don't know if leveling gives a more fuzzy/rough surface.

However, it should keep the cracks at bay unless the slab moves too much. The layer is roughly estimated to be 5-10 mm thick.
