I have a stove model tung that I am going to install in the living room. There is only wooden flooring there so I need non-combustible material as a base. You can then buy a metal plate or, for example, custom-cut granite for a lot of money. Or you can get the idea that you can piece together a plate of sturdy tiles. I have never laid tiles before. What do I need between the tiles and the wooden floor to protect the floor from scratches and to ensure the tiling is done well? Any general tips like whether this can be done at all? :P

No one?
:(

I have never done this, but I would assume that golvgips would be a suitable underlayment.

The edge won't be so nice, I assume, since it's meant to simply lie on top of the existing floor, right? But if it can be made neat, then gypsum might be a good idea. I'm considering if a sheet metal with folded edges, with tiles inside, could be a good idea. The problem here is that the grout between the tiles cracks easily, as the metal isn't particularly stable as a base...

If the floor itself is strong enough, perhaps just a metal sheet is the simplest solution, e.g., about 3 mm steel/stainless steel.

It's probably not easy, especially if the stove is heavy, which places big demands on the stability of the base to prevent the tile grouts from cracking.

The installation instructions for the stove should specify the type of fire protection the floor should have and its spread in different directions.

I have personally laid a 12 mm Minerit board and then tiles. The stove is a cast iron/soapstone stove weighing about 220 kg standing on 4 legs. The Minerit is very rigid and evens out the load well. So far, after 4 years, no tiles or joints have cracked.

I would mill down ~20 mm and then screw drywall (10 mm) and then adhesive and tiles (10 mm) on it.

Thanks for all the tips.
But gunne - mill down into what?
Then the floor must be really thick, right? 20 mm less of the floor thickness is quite a lot...

The Minerit variant seems appealing, but how much does a Minerit board cost?
You have to buy a whole one to be able to take a part of it...

Found a large 3 mm steel plate. Can I use it just as well as mineriten? It can't be bent by hand, anyway. ::)
