Hello,

I've just had my newly ordered house's frame erected and completed, and I am now taking over the work myself. To my surprise, the only fastening in the sill is nails from a bolt nail gun, granted with the correct cc distance (600 mm), but is this really sufficient? Do I need to go back myself and install expansion bolts, and if so, at what cc distance?

It's quite urgent as I need to insulate the outer round to be able to proceed, and the electrician can come and do his work.

Anyway, take care!

As an "old" construction engineer who started building again at retirement (60), I learned now that you just nail the sill with a nail gun or clip nail. I was surprised since the pull-out resistance is minimal with these nails. I want to use concrete anchors for sill attachment in a concrete slab or in a leca foundation, so-called hemaspik (a sleeve that guides the nail to a hook attachment and barbs that fold out from the tube when the nail is driven in).
The building authorities turn a blind eye but also question this with "simple" nails. How does it fare in storms and possible future hurricanes?
Regarding c/c spacing, I can't give you advice. Check out Träguiden where there might be answers.

Not that I have any actual knowledge, but I would probably take the rotary hammer and use some expansion bolts so it mentally feels better.

From our house supplier, only nails for the sill came, but our carpenters refused to use them with the reasoning - They're holding the whole house, they need to be secured. They used "real" expansion screws instead!
I don't really think the house moves once it’s in place, but it FEELS better that it’s properly screwed into the foundation!

Best regards,
/Ove

Have managed to supplement with expanderbult here and there.. feels a little better and safer now :) Thanks anyway for the answers! :)
