Hello,

I'm thinking of building my own indoor staircase with an underlying stringer made of laminated beams where I've cut blocks to attach to the beam. The part where I'm currently stuck is the attachment of the blocks to the beam. When I look at ready-made stringers in hardware stores, they also have blocks that are attached, see example, but I can't see how the attachment is made, only that the wood itself is not cut out in any way, but rather the block is placed flat against the beam.

Is it enough to glue and screw the blocks in place? Suitable method for this, two screws from above and two from the side? Will the tread and riser hide this attachment?

Best regards,

Are you going to have one or two glulam beams under the stairs?

Two

A screw from the top through the block down into the stringer and a slightly longer one through the block at an angle from the riser side down into the stringer.

Make sure the screw goes down about 50mm into the stringer so it holds; you should probably use a screw with a diameter of 5-6 mm.

Ok thanks
