I am planning to replace the open fireplace with a soapstone stove, but I want to keep the plinth and have the stove stand on it. I plan to later cover it with tiles and use the same tiles as floor protection.

But before that, I need to make the left edge of the plinth a little larger, about 5-8 cm larger. Can I just make a mold and pour cement? And cast on top of a plywood board so it hangs onto the existing plinth?

What should I do with the painted surface so the cement adheres?

Old fireplace with a damaged concrete base, scattered rubble, tools, and exposed brickwork, ready for renovation into a soapstone stove.

Concrete adheres poorly to a weak plaster surface that is also painted.

It seems better to buy some bricks of suitable thickness, e.g., 50 mm, chip off the plaster, build a layer with bricks standing on the running surface. It looks like you should use lime mortar for the masonry.
