Drywall. Sand or putty?

The ceiling is 3.7m high. The plasterboard is 2.5m. Then a new plasterboard has been spliced. And this seam bulges out about 4mm. What is the most suitable thing to do? I would preferably like to sand it. But this means sanding through the paper and the plasterboard becomes only 8mm there. And the screws? What do you think?

The question is, why does it bulge? Maybe it's easier to fix that than to sand so much?

Even though it feels frustrating, it's probably easier to tear down the upper board and fix what is needed behind it before putting up a new board. I don't think sanding down to the gypsum is entirely optimal.

A perhaps late and silly question: but have you tried screwing the board where it bulges? Or is there no stud there at all?

It's not that there's a strip placed in a seam that isn't recessed?

One alternative might be to apply filler to the ridge 2-3 dm upwards and downwards to make it less prominent.

One alternative might be to apply joint compound 20-30 cm upwards and downwards on the ridge so it's less prominent.

Might work if wallpapering is planned. Worse if painting, then you would probably need to spackle at least a meter in both directions, but it also depends on how meticulous you are.

Which spackle would be the most suitable? Is there any that does not shrink?
And dries quickly?

I did the same on our painted walls.
4m high and jointed with tape without chamfering. Spackled about 3dm out in both directions, 3 times. Regular "lätthand väggspackel".

Gypsum plaster is quite coarse and difficult to sand!

Follow mycke_nu's advice and it will turn out well!
