Hello, I am going to wallpaper the living room. It consists of masonite panels (an old Eksjöhus built during the 80s). I am from the USA and have never seen such a wall except in a caravan. I wonder if it would be possible to put up drywall directly on top of the old without placing any kind of protection (between the original and the new) against mold. I hope you understand my poor Swedish. I can write in English if it helps.
Thanks!!

if the house is just dry from the start, it will be fine.

didn't see any bad Swedish, just a few spelling errors

Hello and welcome to the forum.

It's perfectly fine to put drywall directly on your old masonite wall.

However, if the existing wall is not straight, you might need to make some adjustments first.

what's needed??
you don't have to.

Thanks for the help!! Kind of you to put up with my Swedish. I'm thinking of maybe adding a bit more insulation (maybe 5 cm) between the boards on the two sides that are foundation walls (that is, they are the sides of the house itself). Could it be a mistake to do it this way? The house is poorly insulated, and I'm thinking of taking the opportunity to fix it bit by bit. Do you understand what I mean? There is only 20 cm of fiberglass in the walls, and it costs a fortune to heat the house. Do you think it could help?

you don't have to do it.
Yes. You have to if you want a straight wall..

I wonder if this thread has ended up in the wrong place. This is hardly about bathrooms...

Yep, it had ;)

if you're going to insulate more, it's a good idea to also level the wall.
otherwise, you would have just gotten a drum if you did as oskis 123 suggested.
