The boss has decided that we should panel a wall in the living room. I have no objection other than the fact that the wall has some issues.
1. It is completely made of plaster except for a few unfortunate studs.
2. There is a sliding door in the middle of everything = fewer studs = fewer mounting possibilities.
The paneling is 12mm thick. What is the simplest approach?
My first thought was to remove the molding, have one running along the floor, one or two on the wall, and one at the top near the ceiling. The two on the wall should be screwed into the studs as much as possible before the door gets in the way, and maybe just use a brad that goes 1cm into the plaster + construction adhesive.
What do you think of this procedure? Are four mounting points enough for a wall that is 250cm high? Should I have some form of insulation in the wall to counteract resonance?
Or is it simply possible to attach the paneling at the top without external battens using screws and use brads where possible? I.e., with Pattex No More Nails where the sliding door goes.
If it works, I don't know, I've never tried it, but in one of the building programs, boards were glued to an uneven wall with some sort of sticky glue.
Sättlim I think is the right name for the glue that might work.
Put a nail at the top and bottom so the panel doesn't fall on your head before the glue has dried.
I would ask the person who is going to have the wall how I should attach it in the plaster , if you don't get a decent answer, you might have to skip the idea or use one of the many excellent adhesive/mounting adhesives available today. For example, Essve's mounting adhesive which has an initial adhesion of 100 kg/m2 and about 10 tons/m2 when cured.
