Hello,

I'm planning to install a new lamp hook in our living room. The new hook means I'll need to drill a hole about 45mm deep into the concrete ceiling. The neighbor above has their living room directly above ours. Is there a risk of possibly hitting a water pipe at this depth? I was thinking about if the hot water for the radiators is routed in the floor? The house is estimated to be built in the 50s or 60s.

Kind regards,
Gustav

Hi - is it in the middle of the ceiling? If so, it's probably not likely that the water would have been routed there. Check how the radiators are positioned in your place and if you can see if the risers are perhaps built into a connection with an interior wall.

Hi - does it apply to the middle of the ceiling? In that case, it doesn't seem very likely that the water would have been drawn there. Check how the radiators are placed in your place and if you can see if the risers might instead be built into a connection to an inner wall.
Thank you for your reply! It's almost in the middle of the ceiling. Just over 2 meters from the radiators. The pipes in our place go straight down into the floor next to the wall.

Ok, and what does the piping look like from radiator to radiator in your apartment? I find it very hard to believe that any pipes would have been run through the middle of a room - everything usually goes around the walls.

If it is a cooperative apartment, the board should be able to answer if there are water pipes or electricity drawn there. However, as the previous respondent, I believe it should be fine, so only if you want to be 100% sure instead of 99.99.

Imagine instead that you ARE going to hit a pipe.
Voila, you will never hit one!

I drill carefully and a little at a time. Thanks so much for your answers! :)
