Draw a straight line along the wall

I have marked the correct height at both ends of a 4 m long wall and need to draw a straight line between these marks. I don't have anything 4 m long and straight enough to use as a ruler, and I'm also working alone, so I don't have a helper. Is there a good trick to draw this line?

If you can attach a thin thread and pull between the marks, simply use this to get more markings and then draw with the long compass. Pull the thread tightly!

Why not a regular chalk line that you attach at one end and then hold in place at the other end and then "snap" as far as you can reach?

Snörslå is the shit. A tool that has existed since the Stone Age and still works fantastically well in many situations today. Available at jula to buy.

...but depending on what the line is going to be used for, it might not be a good idea. Maybe you are going to hang wallpaper along the wall? Or put up a shelf?

A chalk line is fine but a bit boring. Take the chance to buy yourself a really cool and expensive cross line laser with a tripod. Bosch GLL3-80 is what everyone usually drools over here on the forum.

Laser is a bit over my budget for this job, unfortunately.

I have previously used a chalk line to mark on the floor, for example, but it feels like it will be difficult to mark on a wall without it "sagging" in the middle.

A chalk line becomes straight even on a wall if you pull it tight enough.

String line should work well. Otherwise, a hose level and markings at regular intervals might be an alternative if the line is supposed to be horizontal.
