Hello!

I'm planning to remove the Masonite from the wall and replace it with equally thick (more or less) gypsum boards instead. However, I noticed that the Masonite was on tongue and groove boards and actually liked the look of it, so I'm thinking of keeping it and painting directly on the tongue and groove instead. But since I've removed about 13mm from the walls, the door frame and window frame are now sticking out a bit from the wall, so to speak. How should I go about making that look nice? Do I have to take the window frame and door frame apart and cut them down by 13mm, or is there a more convenient method? I've torn off all the moldings around windows/doors/floor/ceiling, so I'll be buying new ones.

The ceiling is also quite old and shabby, it looks like some thick Masonite boards with 1cm deep grooves between them. Is it possible to remove it and find something worth keeping underneath, I wonder? If you remove the Masonite (if that's what it is), are you shooting yourself in the foot in terms of the ceiling's insulation ability? It's on the upper floor...

Thanks in advance!

A simple solution is a wooden strip next to the frame that is 13 mm thick and as wide as the future window trim. When you place the window trim over it, it just looks like thicker trim than usual, a bit more robust which might suit a painted råspontad wall?

Thanks for a great tip! That will be the easiest of all.
