We are building a small pool at home and are planning to build a pool cover (purchasing a pool cover for 40,000 is not an option). My idea is to use galvanized square profiles with dimensions 30x30mm and with a material thickness of 1.5mm. I will bend these into arch shapes that span over the pool (3m) with about 1m height in the middle. The arches will stand 1m apart and be covered with PVC or polycarbonate sheets. I'm envisioning individual sections of 2m each on wheels that can slide under each other. The image below is just to give an idea of what it will look like. The total cost for the whole cover will be approximately 10,000:-

My question is:
Is 30x30x1.5 a suitable dimension to use, or can I go down to a smaller profile? My experience with steel constructions is quite limited, and the times I have built things, the dimensions have probably been quite exaggerated. Now, however, I want to keep the weight down as much as possible to facilitate the movement of the sections.
