Hey!
I'm loosely considering installing a gantry beam in the future garage. I'm thinking of making it simple for myself and attaching it with an "external" suspension, in other words with square tubing standing on the floor. However, I'd like some help with the dimensions since I know there are people here who are good at that.
I was thinking of an I-beam, that should be the most convenient, right? Can a gantry be attached to one of those without having access to an open end?
The beam would be about 8 meters long and on one end stand directly on a square tube and on the other end rest on another beam (which would span across the door) that would also stand on two square tubes.
The maximum load, including the gantry, would probably be about 1.1 tons (assuming a gantry can weigh a maximum of 100 kilos). I have no idea how to do the calculations myself, so I'm hoping you can help me.
